How IMRC’s Water Relief Is Transforming Lives Across India

In many parts of rural India, clean water isn’t just scarce — it’s a daily struggle. Families walk miles. Women and children carry heavy buckets. In flood-hit areas, stagnant ponds become the only source of drinking water.

But thanks to your support, that reality is changing.

In just the first six months of 2025, IMRC constructed 139 wells across seven states, bringing clean drinking water to over 13,000 people. And this is only the beginning.

💧 A Growing Crisis — And a Grassroots Solution

From the drought-prone deserts of Rajasthan to flood-affected villages in Bihar, communities across India face diverse water challenges. But their need is the same: safe, reliable water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene.

That’s where IMRC steps in — with solutions tailored to local needs, including handpumps, tubewells, and old-fashioned wells.

📍 Thoughtfully Designed, Community-Centered

Before any well is built, IMRC assesses the water table, terrain, and population of the area to choose the most appropriate water source:

  • A handpump serves around 50 people
  • An old-fashioned well supports around 100 people
  • A tubewell or electric borewell typically serves a small village of 200 people

💡 This intentional approach ensures each solution is sustainable and suited to the community’s unique needs.

🌍 Where We Worked (Jan–June 2025)

  • Rajasthan: 25 old-fashioned wells + 1 electric borewell
  • Kashmir (Kupwara): 15 tubewells
  • Uttarakhand: 15 tubewells
  • Bihar (Supaul & Bhagalpur): 43 handpumps and tubewells
  • Jharkhand & West Bengal: 40 handpumps combined

💬 Voices from the Community

In Kupwara, Kashmir, women shared how they once walked long distances through freezing weather just to collect a few buckets of water.

“We used to calculate every drop — bathing, cooking, washing — because we knew the pain of fetching it,” said one woman. “Now, we can rest, and the kids can be kids.”

Across all the regions we serve, the impact is the same — families now have access to clean water right outside their homes, bringing relief, dignity, and a renewed sense of normalcy.

📊 Impact by the Numbers

  • Wells Built Since 1981: 1,754
  • People Served to Date: 263,300+
  • Wells Built in Jan–June 2025 Alone: 139
  • States Covered: Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Telangana, Kashmir

🌱 What’s Next?

With ongoing support, we’re expanding water relief to even more underserved areas in rural India. Together, we can make 2025 our most impactful year yet.

💚 Clean Water Means Dignity

Every well we build is more than a water source — it’s a source of health, dignity, and hope. It means children can go to school instead of collecting water. It means families can cook and clean without fear. It means freedom.

Thank you for being a part of this journey — one well, one family, one village at a time.
