Water Well Project

In India, 100 million people lack access to safe drinking water. Before these wells were built, women would spend hours fetching water by foot from a community well which could be several miles away.

Sometimes a village would still face an acute water shortage for two to three months every year due to change in weather and rainfall patterns.

Alhamdulillah, these communities now enjoy the luxury of flowing water, locally. Thanks to your generous support of sponsoring a well, 312 villages are able to have access to potable water. These wells are specifically built centrally in a village to give access for the entire community, regardless of  faith. At one village, a hindu sarpanch was so happy about a regular supply of clean water, throughout the year that he made the electricity free for operating the pump.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” (Ahmad)

Water is so much more than just a drink: it’s needed to cook food, water crops and livestock, wash hands and cooking pots to stop diseases spreading. Each bore well sites costs approximately $1,800. Help a community drink safe water by sponsoring a well today.
