IMRC Volunteer Program
Next one coming Winter 2017
Dec. 13th – 22nd 2017 and Dec. 24th – Jan. 2nd 2018
Volunteer with IMRC in Hyderabad, India this winter and be inspired!
Assist doctors in clinics serving those in need. Join women, working to feed their families. Stay in a girls’ madarsa, experience the spirituality and play with them. Tour and shop a bit too. Experience this 400 year old city’s past & present.
When, Where and Who?
December 13th – 22nd, 2017 in Hyderabad and surrounding villages. Both dates included. There will be two US based adult chaperones at all times, with 24×7 support from IMRC’s local staff and volunteers. This winter, the program is for girls only. 18 years and above.
What will you do?
We will immerse in a variety of activities related to our healthcare, education, women’s empowerment and skill development programs. With this enrichment program students will gain an understanding and uniqueness of poverty and illiteracy in India.
Some activities include:
Visit an Eye Hospital to shadow local medical staff in attending patients and learn the process as well as observe cost effective cataract surgeries.
With our Mobile Medical Clinic, students will visit slums to understand the healthcare urgently needed and provide treatment.
Spend a day with women laborers to gain a first hand understanding of women who work for basic
livelihood, such as making incense, crafts and bangles. Students will get a chance to try the work
themselves and earnn money. See what you can earn and spend in an average women’s daily salary. You will also tour the old city’s craftsmen, calligraphers, herb sellers and perfumers.
Spend a day in a village madrasa and live your life like a student there. Outdoor sports activities are seldom, so you will work with the students to create a Sports Competition Day.
You will visit forts, shop at the bazaars, sightsee at historical places, meet with local colleges students, attend a talk by a scholar on how Hyderabad has made a contribution to the world and Islam.
And so much more!
We think volunteers will return from this trip inspired and with at least one solution to a problem they observed and will implement that after they come back, inshaAllah! Just like a team of volunteers in the past solved the problem of poor health in an impoverished area. They came back to the US, got 50 water wells built there and saw significant positive change there Alhamdulillah!
Approximately $2500 (depending on departure from US)
IMRC is able to sponsor a portion of the costs for each applicant. We stronly urge applicants to share your trip plans with friends and family to fundraise for this amazing experience. IMRC will provide support in setting up a GoFundMe page, mobile cause program and social media presence.
